ROOTS Farm & Forest School is a nature-based learning community serving children ages 2–14 years across our campuses in Georgetown, Milton, Clayton, Frankford, and Townsend, Delaware. We offer a unique blend of preschool, elementary, and middle school programming (with high school coming soon), designed to meet families where they are—whether they are seeking an alternative schooling option, through our full, comprehensive, multi-family homeschool or just homeschool enrichment.
At ROOTS, education looks different—in the best way. Our students learn through hands-on, outdoor, and project-based experiences rooted in real life. From tending gardens and caring for animals to building, creating, exploring, and collaborating, children are actively engaged in meaningful work that builds both knowledge and confidence.
ROOTS offers a 4-day school program that serves as a true alternative to traditional
education, as well as 1-day and 2-day homeschool enrichment programs designed
specifically for homeschooling families.
Our approach integrates:
- Standards-aligned academics (math, reading, writing, science)
- Social-emotional learning (SEL)
- Life skills and real-world application
- Environmental stewardship and community connection
Rather than always separating subjects, we also weave academics into daily experiences,
helping children understand not just what they are learning—but why it matters.
Our outdoor classrooms include gardens, food forests, natural play spaces, and animal care areas—creating an environment where children can learn through doing.
Students engage in:
- Project-based learning tied to real-world outcomes
- STEAM-based activities and problem-solving
- Community service and collaborative projects
- Nature exploration and environmental studies
- Creative expression through art, building, and storytelling
This approach fosters critical thinking, independence, resilience, and a deep connection to the natural world.
With a low 6:1 student-to-teacher ratio, we are able to truly see and support each child. We honor all learning styles—whether auditory, visual, tactile, or kinesthetic—and create space for children to grow at their own pace while still being challenged and supported.
Our programs are designed to support both neurotypical and neurodivergent learners, creating an inclusive environment where every child feels valued, capable, and confident.
