After becoming a mother, Heather’s curiosity led her to further explore early childhood education, and she discovered a deep passion for fostering children's innate love of learning. Through her research and post graduate studies in education, she came to believe that children thrive when they spend more time outdoors, engaged in self-directed learning. This philosophy led her to the forest school model, which she sees as the ideal environment for nurturing social-emotional intelligence, creativity, and self-sufficiency. Completing the Forest School Teacher Institute’s Teacher Training further strengthened her passion for outdoor learning. Heather is excited to guide children in exploring the wonders of nature, building confidence, and developing a sense of curiosity and resilience that will serve them for a lifetime. Heather, and her husband Nathan, are thrilled for their own children to be a part of this community that goes back to the roots of education.

As a new mom I read everything I could about raising a well regulated kid. In everything I read, nature and forest school kept popping up. The more I read and researched the more I wanted this for my child. When the opportunity arose to not only have my son attend the Farm and Forest School but to work with them I could not have said yes fast enough.
I hope all the students get to develop an appreciation and respect for nature.
In college I majored in Recreation and Leisure studies with courses in outdoor education and inclusive recreation. I am a nature lover and a camping/hiking enthusiast.

My passion for nature, sunshine, the beach, plants, and all things environment lead me to research homeschooling for the boys. Shortly after, I discovered ROOTS and was thrilled at the opportunity for my kids to discover the unlimited benefits of nature/forest school. Shortly after meeting Talon, Travis and the rest of the staff, I knew this was a place we could all evolve, and learn together. I look forward to un-programming my brain from what is considered “standard” education, and watching my kids and others thrive in a student led environment.
My background is a Bachelors degree in Behavioral science. And a Masters in Elementary Education. I am a certified birth doula, nutrition coach, and (soon to be) Forest/Nature school teacher!
